Playing Piano is very rewarding. Here are some things to consider when purchasing your playing piano
The Beginning Pianist

Is there a typical beginning pianist? The most common scenario is probably a family with young children, who are about to be given the opportunity to take piano lessons. The parents may or may not play, but they recognize it as self-evident that learning to play the piano is going to improve their children's lives. If a parent does not play, they very often took piano lessons as a child and regret that they didn't stick with them, and intend to do everything possible to foster a love of music, as well as, the necessary commitment in their children.

Today however, the beginning pianist is very often an adult, who wishes to improve their quality of life. CBC radio in Toronto once asked their listeners to phone in over the course of a week, and describe the experience they had as children trying to learn to play the piano. Most of the calls described unpleasant discouraging experiences. It is true that for many years piano teaching methods were severe and seemed intent on weening out all but the most gifted, or most determined.

Teaching methods have changed a great deal since then however with many more approaches other than strictly classical. Many of those callers who had bee discouraged as children had gone back to the piano and were enjoying themselves immensely, with a hobby that not only relaxes them after a hard days work, but brings that sense of accomplishment, which is so enjoyable to us all. It is very important to find a teacher who you or your child is comfortable with and who can convey the joy and beauty of learning to make music. As a rule of thumb, independent teacher who are members of registered teaching associations, are the best choice. Be very suspicious if you enroll in what appears to be a music school, but the first interest of the facility seems to be selling you some kind of keyboard.

If you were to Google, "medical benefits of taking music lessons" you will discover abundant evidence that making music is good for you. Yes a piano can be an expensive investment but wisely purchased, holds its value very well.
